FULHAM STRUGGLE WITH TOFFEES

FULHAM STRUGGLE WITH TOFFEES
Saturday 25th September 2010 (Premier League)

Fulham 0 Everton 0
Att: 25,598

Since the Wolves game, Fulham were knocked out of the Carling Cup by Stoke City (2-0) and lost Moussa Dembele to a crude tackle by one of the Stoke defenders so, with Bobby Zamora a long-term casualty since the Wolves game, today’s forward line was made up of Clint Dempsey and Zoltan Gera.

This week, I was assigned to vomitory P6/P7. The last time I had manned this entrance had been for the visit of another team from the north west—Manchester United—and seems to accommodate most of the hardcore away supporters. Fortunately, and much to my surprise, the Everton fans were a pretty well-behaved crowd, though one young scally thought it was funny to do that thing that kids do, where you hold out a finger, causing the victim to look down, before quickly raising the finger to meet the recipient’s nose. Apart from that, though, they were fine and even stayed in their seats most of the time.

My vomitory partner was also a steward at Brentford who was at his first game at Craven Cottage. Not that I was much help to him, having only worked at four games previously.

I was so impressed by the behaviour of the supporters from Merseyside that I was hoping for an Everton win—quite a surprise for a Liverpool fan! Unfortunately, the Evertonians returned home with no goals and just one point, sending the Toffee Men to the bottom of the Premier League and Fulham to sixth, though there certainly wasn’t a 14-place difference between the two teams on the day.
