WET WET WET

WET WET WET
Wednesday 25th August 2010 (Carling Cup)
Fulham 6 (Gera 10, Dembele 26, Zamora 36, Gera 45+2, Zamora 66, Dempsey 70) Port Vale 0

Att: 9,031

Wet, wet, wet was tonight's theme, as the skies opened above Craven Cottage for this 2nd round Carling Cup tie against Port Vale.
I was assigned to the safety gate next to the tunnel though, needless to say, famous faces were at a premium. The Vale manager, Mickey Adams, was knocking around a fair bit before kick-off and succeeded in getting me in the shot for that evening’s Football League Cup Highlights Show, both in the show’s intro and as the teams came onto the pitch.

Port Vale brought quite a few fans and the ones that wandered over to the tunnel were really friendly, as I’ve often found with people from the Potteries. One couple—a young girl and her (I think) grandfather—were very pleasant, and she was dead chuffed to get some autographs of her favourite Vale players. I was hoping that Vale would score, so the fans could head back to the north midlands with something to celebrate.

There was also a bunch of young Fulham fans who were collecting autographs, mainly from the home players, though some of the Vale team got nabbed, and one cheeky chappie who asked for a shirt as the players were leaving the pitch after the game was rewarded with one of the Vale player’s tops.

Considering the weather, I was thankful that the game didn’t go to extra-time, and I will be praying that Fulham get an away tie in the next round.
